Selecting and Installing Ceiling Medallions
Choosing the correct ceiling medallion style for the room
should be your first priority. We recommend cutting a paper
template to the size of the ceiling medallion you like to
see if the ceiling medallion fits the room. Be sure it's
the correct size for the room and that the design fits with
the era of the home. Today's polymer ceiling medallions
are more lightweight, affordable and easier to install than
heavier plaster versions. Cumberland Woodcraft ceiling medallions
are chosen for their ornate designs of days gone by.
A ceiling medallion goes hand-in-hand with crown moulding
and adds a decorative touch. If you are considering a ceiling
medallion for your light or ceiling fan, then there is no
reason to bring in a master plasterer. Cumberland Woodcraft
has over 65 ceiling medallions to choose from, ranging from
6 inches to 74 1/4 inches in size. Our ceiling medallions
are available in simple, classic designs, ornate floral
patterns and traditional styles - solid pieces with are
usually placed in the center of the room on the ceiling
as an accent piece. If you choose a style without the center
cut, since it is a polymer product, the material is easy
to cut. Cut the hole in the middle of the ceiling medallion
so the wires for your fixture can be connected. Then glue
the ceiling medallion to the ceiling as instructed on the
tube of adhesive. After the glue has dried, connect the
fan or light fixture the same way you would if the medallion
weren't there. If you would like, please email us any questions
you may have regarding installation.
Such a project should take about 24 hours for the Premium
Polyurethane Construction Adhesive, specially formulated
to be used with polymer millwork, to cure. Or, if you would
like, you could use "liquid nails" or any construction adhesive
that will work with polymer products. Curing times will
vary with temperature. Be sure to read the installation
instructions on the adhesive for proper bonding. A couple
of two-by-twos cut to length will hold the ceiling medallion
in place while the adhesive dries, or you could use fasteners.
You will need to patch the fasteners and we recommend auto
body "Bondo." This is easy to use, easy to get and paints
very well. This is a decorative piece of art and the time
given in drying will yield a much better quality product
for you in the end.
